1. Introduction to Leadership and Professionalism
a. From Purchasing to Strategic SCM
- Understand the shift from purchasing to strategic supply chain
management.
b. Elements of a Profession
- State and discuss the characteristics of a supply chain professional.
c. Components of Professional Certification
d. The PMAC Membership Survey
e. The Leadership Point of View
- Compare various other points of view (follower’s, bureaucrats,
administrators, and contrarian’s) with the leadership point of
view.
- Apply the three elements of the leadership point of view to a situation
(problem or opportunity) at your organization.
- Start creating a “leader profile,” of a supply chain leader
at your organization.
2. The Diamond Model
a. Survey of managerial Style
- Determine your own managerial style.
- Identify ways to improve your leadership (vision, commitment and
management) skills, and create a plan for improvement.

- Describe the four elements of the diamond model of leadership.
- Apply the diamond model to a leadership situation at your
organization.
3. Levels of Leadership
a. Vision and Mission Statements
- Analyze and critique your organization’s vision and mission
statement.

- Explain the three levels of leadership.
- Demonstrate “level three” leadership in a group setting.

- Assess your ability in terms of the six steps for effective
leadership.
b. The Six Steps
- Identify and implement ways to improve your leadership abilities.
- Discuss the six steps in a small group setting.
- Incorporate the six steps, as relevant, into your leader profile for
presentation on Day 2.

- Describe a leader to your peers orally, in the form of a brief quick
stand-up presentation.

- Assess your leadership intelligence across the four categories

- Identify ways to improve your leadership intelligence, again across the
four categories.
- Explain the multi-dimensional concept of “intelligence.”
7. Leading Individuals and Teams
a. The Sources of Power
- Describe the five sources of power, and then link them to the three
levels of leadership.
b. The Language of Leadership
- Practice the language of leadership.
c. The Team Life Cycle (TLC) Concept
- Explain the team life cycle (TLC) concept.
d. Team Roles
- Take on one or more team roles while working on a small group task.
