International Business and Multicultural Skills

Introduction

Supply chain professionals conduct business all over the globe and interact with many different cultures while doing business. Canada itself is home to many diverse cultures. The objectives of this workshop are for participants to develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity in organizations, and to deal with professional issues associated with international cultures in a sensitive and constructive way. In the workshop, participants will conduct research and do sourcing activities that involve diverse cultures and commodities. Participants will discuss the cultural-logistical implications of pursuing a variety of international sourcing arrangements.

About this Workshop

This two-day workshop focuses on developing the international business and multicultural skills of participants. Through readings, discussions, exercises and presentations, participants advance their problem-solving abilities in a global cultural context. This workshop includes detailed discussion on the strategic role of cultural knowledge in managing global supply chains. Participants will also work in groups to prepare and deliver presentations on sourcing specific countries and products. Topics in this workshop include: international issues, multicultural skills as competitive advantage, dimensions of culture, individual national cultures (and specific studies of nations), cultural relativism, cultural code of conduct, and ethical leadership.
